COVID-19 & Driver Recruiting: Updates for 4/1/2020

We understand you and your team are battling the challenge of recruiting and retaining drivers during this unexpected pandemic situation. Conversion Interactive Agency is committed to regularly sharing with you the trends, information and data we are collecting that impacts you and your carrier.

While this is an ever-changing situation, below is a rundown of what we know today:

  • FMCSA Issues “Reasonable Flexibility” Guidance for Carriers & Drivers – The FMCSA announced they are making some exceptions and acknowledged that the virus response is causing extenuating circumstances for employer and driver compliance with current drug and alcohol testing requirements. To learn more, click here.
  • Domestic Intermodal vs Long Haul Trucking Freight – Domestic intermodal container freight volume dropped sharply over the past two weeks while long haul truck volumes rose sharply, with both eventually leveling out. Freight analysts are continuing to watch freight volumes during this unpredictable time.
  • PHMSA Temporarily Halts Enforcement on Hazard Materials Training - The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) continues to monitor the effects the COVID-19 outbreak is having on regulated hazardous materials entities. As a result, PHMSA decided to temporarily halt enforcement actions against shippers and carriers that are unable to comply with training requirements included in the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR). We are continuing to collect data and information from our strategic media partners, and we will provide those as we receive them.

Reminder: We are also sending out updates for your drivers so you can provide them with valuable information that will help them on the road. You can find the latest driver update here on our blog.
