The Trucking Industry’s Gift to All of Us

Last month, just south of Nashville, Tn., a Mack truck adorned with a hood ornament of the traditional bulldog pulled into town. Only this truck’s hood ornament was customized with a little something special…it looked like this.
What kind of goodies was this special truck hauling? Well, it was an 88-foot tall Engelmann spruce from Colville National Forest in Eastern Washington state. The tree was decorated in ornaments created by Washington-state youth aged 5-19 to fit this year’s theme of “Sharing Washington’s Good Nature.” Harvested November 1st, the tree was specially wrapped for its long journey via the custom-built, Mack® Pinnacle™ truck. Over several weeks, it visited various towns and cities so that all citizens from across the U.S. could enjoy the tree, even if they could not personally visit the Capitol Building. We were able to view the tree and the truck hauling it, as well as sign the banner that lines the trailer housing the tree.
Representing one of the most patriotic industries in the country, the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) is one of the official sponsors and was on-hand with performances by their Highway Angel program spokesperson Lindsay Lawler and six-time Vocal Group of the Year Diamond Rio.
The transportation of the immense tree is no easy task! This year, it traveled some 5,000+ miles.
TCA sponsored two of the stops along the way to spotlight the way the tree is traveled (by 18-wheeler) and to promote the trucking industry to everyone in attendance. The tree made several more stops before it reached the capitol. This was a great example of how the trucking industry gives back to all of us.
